About the Festival
The Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story is inspired by one of the greatest story tellers of our time, Alice Munro. Born and raised in Wingham, Munro has spent most of her life as a Huron County resident. She is the only Canadian to be awarded the Nobel prize for literature, which she won in 2013. The Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story strives to nurture emerging local writers, showcase Canadian authors, and celebrate the joy of reading, writing and telling our stories. This annual two-day festival takes place across Huron County and features workshops, author readings, presentations, performances and a short story contest.
Join us for the next festival: June 2-4, 2023

2023 Festival for Kids
Expanding our festival in order to bring writers and children of all ages together through storytelling is fundamental to achieving our goal of nurturing the next generation of great Canadian authors. In the Alice Munro Festival for Kids - celebrated Canadian authors share their stories with students in Avon Maitland schools through a partnership with the Foundation for Education. “Memory is the way we keep telling ourselves our stories - and telling other people a somewhat different version of our stories."
